2018 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
"The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Committee, staff, and volunteers are delighted to welcome Appalachian State University and Middle Tennessee University to New Orleans," said R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Chairman Sheriff Paul Valteau. "We look forward to celebrating an unforgettable week of bowl activities with coaches, student-athletes, alumni and fans."
Led by Head Coach Scott Satterfield, the Appalachian State Mountaineers finished the regular season as Sun Belt Conference Champions and with an overall record of 10-2. This marks the Mountaineers' first appearance in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
"Once our guys found out, if you win the championship this year, you're going to New Orleans, that fired everybody up," App State head coach Scott Satterfield said. "We're excited about the New Orleans Bowl and facing a great opponent in Middle Tennessee. When you are fortunate to play in a bowl game, you know that the other team is going to be a quality opponent that will also be fired up about playing one more time. We will get to work this week on scouting Middle Tennessee and look forward to what our guys will be able to experience next week down in the Big Easy."
Under Head Coach Rick Stockstill and led by Quarterback Brent Stockstill, the Blue Raiders posted a regular season record of 8-5 overall and a 7-1 conference record in the Conference USA. This will be the also mark the Blue Raiders' second appearance in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
"We are honored to be representing Conference USA in the New Orleans Bowl," said Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Stockstill. "I am thrilled for this team and especially our senior class. This is the first class to ever play in four straight bowl games. This team has had an incredible season and this is a tremendous reward for the work they have put in. We can't wait to get there."
In its 18th year, the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and its affiliated events continue to grow and create significant impact in the Greater New Orleans region, generating an estimated economic impact in excess of $20 million annually.
